    过几年再来读

    严格来说,这本书厚达 300 多页大开本全英文,字密密麻麻,很实在,但是对于一般人而言,可能很难坚持读完。何况书是偏理论的,如果没有强烈的动机和推动力,可能很难坚持阅读。这是我女儿推荐给我的,真是坑爹😅。我差不多每天花一小时在查单词,查语境语意。陆续坚持了 20 天,还是放弃了。依我的水平,本来这种书我就是看不下去的🤔。 以下是我女儿的大学助教的推荐文👍👍: 这本书的优点在于,它并不是完全的从实践出发去进行功利化的写作(辩论)辅导,而是追根溯源,从理论角度进行推导,指出每一个技巧(技术)背后的理论根源。而且,它所采用的理论是结合了传统和现代,比如从逻辑角度来说就大量采纳了 Toulmin 的非形式逻辑系统。更难能可贵的是它推陈出新,对一些难以理解的学术术语进行了替换和简单化,清晰化。这本书适合英语专业大三以上,具有强烈的学习欲望和动力的学生,同时需要提升英语写作(议论文),有强烈的理论联系实际需求和自制力的学生。也适合大中学英语老师。问题在于如何将书中大量的理论和分析,有效传达给学生,同时自己能够建立一个清晰的体系。这本书比之很多写作书好的一点在于有系统的理论,但是不可避免的,还是分散点太多,对于阅读者而言,很难做到读完之后有一个完整的纲目,需要有良好的阅读习惯和做笔记以及思考的阅读模式与技巧。另外,本书就英语写作和辩论而言,缺乏的是对于具体语言方面的讲解,有了容器,有了理论纲领,还需要填充内容,而这个内容,也是一个很大的问题。总体而言,推荐有毅力和需求的认真研读此书,或者即便不能够通读全书,也可以作为工具查询,开卷有益。

      本书非常值得一看。虽然它的主题是辩论,但是即使不参加辩论也能从书中学到很多批判性思考的能力,这种能力正是我们在学校教育中缺失的,但生活中每个决定和观点又和这种能力息息相关。试想一个持有 “思辨无用” 观点的人,当你问他为什么思辨无用,他会寻找证据支持这个观点,不知不觉中他已经身处思辨的过程中。作为一个雅思老师,对我来说本书最有价值的部分在于它系统地说明了如何将一个观点解释清楚,这一点直接影响着雅思大作文的质量。希望自己能够把在这本书里学到的核心内容运用到雅思教学中并完善自己的教学体系,帮助到更多雅思考生。
