What are you chasing for... ?
What the hell are you chasing for?The title was established for Gatsby, and, Fitzgerald . At the beginning of this book, Nick,as the narrator , says from the start that his father once told him,“Whenever you feel like criticising anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”So he never easily criticizes others . But as a bystander to the whole Gatsby affair, his final attitude was that“when I came back from New York ,I was disgusted , disgusted with everyone and everything. Only one man was exempt from my disgust, Gatsby.”This book shows us a grand scene: it depicts a flashy scene of Gatsby holding a big party outside the beach mansion. There was full of people, the upper class with the decent clothes of successful , talking and laughing. There is full of dancing, swimming, movies, parties, jazz, fancy costumes and banquet lights. And the laughter and voices covered the sound of the waves. John Chamberlain praised Fitzgerald "has the ability to use a text to seize the flavor of an era, the fragrance of a night and an old song mood". Some said "the great Gatsby" is alone defines an era, with lifelike paint again shows the "noisy 20s" various characteristics. The author of this book, Fitzgerald, is a man who had been pursuing and experiencing beauty when he studied at Princeton University. In real life, he was madly in love with a rich girl, Zelda, who finally rejected his marriage proposal. This made him realize that he was not rich enough. In this book, Fitzgerald wrote a story about a poor boy pursuing a rich girl. Just like he met Zelda at a party in the summer, and fell in love with her at first sight. In this book, Gatsby is rich, but only wants to use material wealth for Daisy's favor, because he thinks Daisy is the embodiment of beauty, which is the same as Fitzgerald exchanged his success for Zelda's heart. Gatsby and Fitzgerald are both idealistic and clean. They have respectively made a desperate attempt to their ideals, the crown, the white moonlight in their heart. In this book, I could see both their vulnerability and their charm. But Daisy is a selfish and cold person, Actually, she finally indirectly costs Gatsby for her life. The ending makes me so upset about “love” .Haruki Murakami's favorite novel during his adolescence was this one. The reason is : "It describes how desperate people behaved in those ideal age, when dreams were shattered. This is a very important topic. Gatsby's story reminds me of an ancient Chinese poem: "I turn my heart to the moon, and the moon shines on the ditch."True love, beauty, is it all like a dream, unattainable? But I want to end this on a positive note with the he lyrics I am listening to this moment which makes me feel so warm:“The days we had, the songs we sang together. Oh yeah, and oh my love,I'm holding on forever, reaching for a love that seems so far...”Eventually, your sincerity will give you in return.
